Get Some Sleep — But Not on the Job!

Between March Madness and St Patrick’s Day, this weekend was packed with many excuses to eat, drink, and be merry. I’m betting that a lot of people returned to work today feeling groggy due to the lack of sleep from all the partying.

Did you know that last week was declared Sleep Awareness by the National Sleep Foundation? Sleep is a huge issue these days. According to the National Sleep Foundation, the last 25 years has seen a substantial increase in the number of people getting less than the recommended sleep requirements.

Being constantly connected with technology can be great, but it means that we are always on — and this impacts our sleep. To address this sad fact, Europe recently opened up “nap bars”! And the Benjamin Hotel in Midtown Manhattan lets you choose from 12 sleep pillows to make sure you get a good night’s sleep.

But here’s where it gets personal: Sleep deprivation clearly impacts your sales focus, drive, and motivation. Salespeople must be super alert in today’s sales environment. If you are sluggish and exhausted, many opportunities will pass you by while you nod off.
